Chronicle of the daily life of Shomõtsi, an engaging and gregarious Ashenika man living in a village at the border between Brazil and Peru. Our guide in the film is Shomõtsi’s nephew Valdete, a teacher and one of the village’s videographers. Shomõtsi, Valdete and two friends travel by canoe to the neighbouring town to collect their pension. After camping out for several days waiting for the airplane with the money to fly in, the men shop for some basic supplies and head home. This film is part of Arandu: Listen to the Weather, a festival sidebar celebrating 35 years of Indigenous filmmaking from Brazil: key films and filmmakers working from the late 90s to the present.
