A gunshot echoes from 1944, leading Italian post-punk musician Massimo Zamboni to uncover his family’s past. Long after the break-up of C.S.I., the historic band that he co-founded, Zamboni calls back the ex-members to engage again with the contested legacy of the WWII antifascist Resistenza in today’s Italy. Private and collective memories collide as a new musical project is born. The musicians gather in the Theatre of Gualtieri, a town replete with war memories. Their compositional process, and Zamboni’s travail as he interrogates the fault-lines of remembrance and oblivion in his family and community, become the backbone of The Enemy.
