On the coast of the Persian Gulf, in the south of Iran, a ritual called Zâr is still practised today. This musical exorcism is said to heal all ‘victims of the wind.’ According to this popular, immemorial, belief there exists a maleficent force driven by the winds able to penetrate fragile bodies. Once healed by the ritual the possessed man or woman thereafter becomes Âhlé Hava.
