In my subversion of Google Maps, I have included additional filters in an attempt to question the app’s recommended routes and assumptions of speed in neoliberalism’s demand for able-bodiedness. This demand overlooks how every body moves differently and engenders a need to ‘keep up’ – which eventually exhausts and debilitates all of us. It is only by recognising disability not as a binary but as a mechanism of power – much like gender, race, and sexuality – that it becomes possible to challenge its production.
