Volunteers and interns

VOLUNTEER and INTERN POSITIONS at RAI FILM FESTIVAL 2019

Do you love ethnographic film? Would you like to get involved in the organisation of a major ethnographic film festival?

The RAI Film Festival is recruiting volunteers and interns to support the 16th edition of the festival, taking place in Bristol 27 – 30 2019. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the festival, to get to know other volunteers, students and filmmakers, and to gain experience in event organising. And you’ll get a chance to watch some great ethnographic films along the way too! All interns and volunteers will receive a free festival pass.
We are now recruiting for a number of different positions:

1. Festival volunteers:
Festival Volunteers help out with the running of the event.
You need to be available 27 – 30 March, in Bristol.

Tasks will include: welcoming guests; handing out information & programmes; answering inquiries; helping with setting up and dismantling exhibitors’ stalls; staffing the exhibitor’s room, the video library and the cinemas. There will be a rota, so each person will get to do each job for a limited amount of time, rather than being in one place for the duration. You will also get a chance to attend some of the events and screenings. You will need to know the programme well and help delegates navigate it (you will get some training on this).

To apply please send your CV and a short paragraph about why you want to volunteer at the RAI Film Festival to the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Film Festival Manager, David Edgar at film@therai.org.uk.

Deadline: 18 February 2019

2. Conference Volunteers:
Conference Volunteers help with the conference, “Expanding the Frame: Ethnographic Film and its Others”, incorporated into this year’s RAI Film Festival.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to get insight into delivering an academic conference – and to hear some fascinating presentations!

To apply please send your CV and a short paragraph about why you want to volunteer at the RAI Film Festival to the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Film Festival Manager, David Edgar at film@therai.org.uk.

Deadline: 18 February 2019

3. Volunteer Festival Photographers
26 March 2019 – 5 April 2019
Location: Bristol
The Festival Photographer’s task will be to document the festival by capturing images of a number of events, as indicated by the Festival Manager. The photographer will also be responsible for editing the photographs and making them available to the festival manager and marketing volunteer during the festival and in the week following the festival.

To apply please send a CV, a covering letter, and links to your work to the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Film Festival Manager, David Edgar at film@therai.org.uk.

Deadline: 18 February 2019

4. Online Festival Marketing Assistant (Intern):
11 February 2010 – 24 March 2010: 0.5-1 day/week. Location: anywhere in UK.
28 March – 1 April: full time in Bristol

The Online Festival Marketing Assistant’s task will be to use social media and email to publicise the festival and individual screenings. You will work closely with the Festival Manager. You will need to have an excellent knowledge of the festival programme, great writing skills and be proficient in the use of social media. A knowledge of Bristol and surrounding areas would also help, but is not essential.

To apply please send a CV and a covering letter to the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Film Festival Manager, David Edgar at film@therai.org.uk.

Deadline: 03 February 2019

5. Volunteer Festival Reporter
11 February 2019 – 24 March 2019
Location: anywhere in UK; 28 March – 1 April full time in Bristol
The Festival Reporters’ task will be to produce short interviews with filmmakers and festival guests which will be featured on the festival blog and website. In the lead up to the festival the reporter, working closely with the Festival Manager, will interview a number of filmmakers and guests via email, on the phone or Skype. During the festival days, the reporters will conduct interviews in person, with speakers, audience members and staff. This role requires excellent writing skills, some interviewing experience and a keen interest in ethnographic film and journalism. You will receive some training for this role.

To apply please send a CV and a covering letter to the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Film Festival Manager, David Edgar at film@therai.org.uk.

Deadline: 03 February 2019

Please note that for all volunteer and intern positions, enthusiasm, a genuine desire to learn and commitment are more important than previous experience.
