Since the 80s around 250 Purepecha families settled in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico. They traveled more than 2,500 miles from Janitzio island, where they were fishermen and weavers of nets, looking for better living conditions. In Baja California, this Purepecha community adopted the artisanal craft of making piñatas. For more than 30 years they have devoted their family workshops to developing piñatas for export to the United States whose designs do not express the richness of their culture. Four families of piñata artisans gather together to create a line of piñatas that express their culture and experiences of migration.
