The ritual cycle of the Waters of Oxalá is one of the most important ceremonies of candomblé in Brazil. After days of preparation, the sons and daughters of the saint gather to cultivate and relive the orixá’s myths in public celebrations, the xirês, that invoke the presence of the gods. Everyday candomblé ceremonies and personal accounts are intertwined with the rhythm of drumming and dance in ceremonial scenes, presenting an intimate view and a proud tale of Afro-Brazilian traditions.
