Reading traditionally played an important role for German (self-)identification. In 2000 an international survey revealed that German pupils are lacking basic reading skills, giving rise to nationwide shock. Taking this national identity crisis as a starting point this films starts to explore the reading from an anthropological perspective. It ends up giving a tacit portrait of 3 characters observed through a pair of reading glasses.
