The history of the Caminanti is an unwritten story of an autochthonous community living ‘in hiding’. We know barely anything about their history, which has only been transmitted orally throughout centuries. Various groups within the community consider themselves part of one big family based on ties of kinship and solidarity, governed by strict internal rules that create a bond of belonging. The documentary explains how the Caminanti consider themselves part of an island which does not recognise them as such. They feel fully Sicilian and yet they have created a unique community identified by its own rules and cultural values.
